Q&A: Could this be from ovarian cysts?
Question by Abby: Could this be from ovarian cysts?
I have brought this up to 2 different doctors, about 4 times now, and every time my concerns get dismissed as “you’re just tiny, you’re going to be irregular when you look at yourself in the mirror” or “it might be a little ovarian cyst swelling, that’s all” or “you’re young, you’re fine.”
Here’s what’s wrong:
On the left side of my abdomen, right near my hipbone (a little farther up and about 1/2 in. inward), i have a small amount of “swelling” not sure what to call it. Then if you follow that down and to the right (so toward the belly button) just another 1/2 in. there is a little more “swelling. When you look at my stomach as a whole, in front of the mirror, the left side is slightly bigger. No pain, BUT if i lean down far (at times) i feel a weird sensation, and sometimes when i scratch that area it feels likes it’s almost numb, like slightly tingly. Again no pain. The only time i feel “pain” in that area is a full or bloated feeling when i’m cramping before my period and i sometimes get a nagging “pain” in that area, but none of it really hurts too bad. Sometimes it will feel bloated in that area if i need to go to the bathroom really bad or if i have a lower back ache (which i get a lot).
I have NO idea what this is, i have looked up that area online and looks like just my intestines are there. I do have a lot of acid reflux and heartburn/indigestion, but not sure if the two are related.
Does anyone have any idea what would cause this? I plan of going to prompt care soon, just so i can get a second opinion, but until then, does anyone have any ideas? I’m a 30 year old female (just turned 30 a few weeks ago), regular periods, 98/99 lbs. and 5’2. I have had ovarian cysts in the past, not sure if i still have any or not. My doctor told me there is no sense checking every few months, because it’s normal for women to get them.
I do go to a regular family doctor, she is both my GYN and regular doctor.
Natural heartburn remedies?
Question by Alexandrea: Natural heartburn remedies?
I’m 15 weeks pregnant (first one) and it seems like I’ll go a few days with no problems at all and then all of a sudden I’ll have an entire day with constant heartburn, like 24 hours straight. I’ve been eating pretty much the same things day in and day out, so I don’t think it’s anything I’m eating. I’ve heard it can just be the pressure the baby puts on your other organs. Anyway, I’m looking for some good natural home remedies that are safe for the baby and that actually work! Thanks for your help!
I tried tums (doc recommended) but they didn’t even touch it! I hope this doesn’t last the entire time lol! Thanks all for your great suggestions!

its not necessarily a natural remedy, but Gaviscon is perfectly safe for baby and it works wonders. when i was pregnant i had what i thought was heart burn and used it before i went to be each night and it worked wonders! turns out i had gall stones, and had to have my gall bladder taken out, but the gaviscon still worked regardless lol.

Acid Reflux Weight Loss – Part 4 Kick Off Your Acid Reflux Disease Diet and Weight Loss Program
If you suffer from acid reflux disease, then getting a diet program started can seem challenging, considering the number of foods that are restricted due to acid reflux symptoms. However, as long as you arm yourself with the right tools and information, your diet should be much more rewarding than you may first expect.
Your first goal should be to discover what foods you can eat. These should be foods that are not only ‘waistline friendly’, but they should also be foods you can eat without experiencing symptoms of acid reflux disease. Though everybody has their own ‘trigger’ foods to which their symptoms react, the following foods are generally considered to be suitable on their own or as ingredients in acid reflux disease diet recipes:
- Fresh apples
- Apple juice
- Bananas
- Baked potatoes
- Carrots
- Green beans
- Peas
- Skinless chicken breast
- Extra lean ground beef
- Egg whites
- Egg substitute
- White fish
- Feta or goat cheese
- Fat-free cream cheese
- Fat free sour cream
- Low fat soy cheese
- Multigrain bread
- Bran or oatmeal cereal
- Pretzels
- Corn bread
- Graham crackers
- Brown rice
- Rice cakes
- Jelly beans
- Red licorice
- Baked potato chips
- Water
- Herbal teas (not peppermint)
These are by no means all of the foods that are safe to eat for losing weight and avoiding symptoms of acid reflux disease. However, these are among the more popular and have the added benefit of being easy to find at the local grocery store.
